This week we are tackling Math and Science at the same time by using the Scientific Method to show how data can be collected and recorded to help answer questions that anyone has. Even though this process will eventually lead to experiments, the first steps of questions, research, and forming a hypothesis take students a couple of days to just think about the process. It is not something that I can teach through a lecture, but the students have to experience the process for themselves.
For example, one of the groups came up to me today asking me if their question was satisfactory. After reading over it with them, we discussed whether or not the research could be replicated based upon their question. The students knew what they meant, but someone else reading it may interpret what they were saying differently. In the end, the students are learning! They are seeing that they are able to refine their questions to help others and themselves understand. On a side not... here is a "BrainPOP" video to help you understand the Scientific Method. Have fun licking those tootsie pops!

ReplyDeleteSounds like we are in for some interesting projects! Keep up the posts.... feels like we are part of the class!
