Today, as we were reading Chapter 2 from The Homework Machine, we were making real life connections to cinnamon rolls. That's right, Cinnamon Rolls! In the book, the "D squad" visits Brenton's house for the first time. While the kids are SUPPOSED to be doing their homework, Brenton's hospitable mother decides to make cinnamon rolls for the kids. We took a moment to talk about how when reading, it is important to make connections with the story. However, some of my students quickly made me aware that they had never tried a cinnamon roll. Some of the other students were shocked and suggested that we bring in cinnamon rolls so that they could "experience" the story.
I'm sure that the students may have ulterior motives, yet I think that I agree that these students should be able to experience the story like everyone else. Even if it does mean, we get a little sticky.
Then who are we to deny them the experience of the story :O ... if you need a volunteer to provide the cinnamon rolls... just let me know, I would be glad to send them in for Fun Friday.
ReplyDeleteI would also love to let them have a cinnamon roll experience and for you and the others just a yummy treat :b let me know if you need me to help with this also, thanks.
